Sliema, Malta — December 23, 2025 — Leads & Copy — A recent analysis of video game sales by GAMIVO, a digital distribution platform, reveals that games released in 2025 are dominating the sales charts, indicating a successful year for gamers. The research highlights a preference for newer titles among players.
GAMIVO’s data indicates that 60% of video games purchased this year were released between 2021 and 2025, with a significant portion being the latest releases. Specifically, 28% of the games bought were released in 2025, followed by 2024 releases at 24%. Titles from 2023, 2022, and 2021 accounted for 19%, 17%, and 12% of sales, respectively. The trend shows a clear inclination towards the most recent games.
Andrzej Bazylczuk from GAMIVO noted that gamers appreciate both older and newer games but particularly crave novelties. Despite awareness of potential technical issues and the need for post-release patches, gamers are drawn to the excitement of experiencing new adventures. Publishers capitalize on this desire by creating hype and offering pre-order incentives like exclusive skins, bonus items, and early access to the game.
GAMIVO’s specialization in discounted video games provides unique insights into gamers’ shopping habits. The analysis shows that approximately 71% of gamers opt for titles priced at €20 or less but are willing to spend more on new releases, emphasizing the importance of quality. The success of 2025 releases is attributed to the abundance of remarkable virtual adventures available this year.
GAMIVO’s top-selling games include titles acclaimed as the best of 2025, such as ARC Raiders, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Rematch, Battlefield 6, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Borderlands 4, Monster Hunter Wilds, the PC version of The Last of Us: Part II, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which received nine awards at The Game Awards 2025.
Titles from 2024 that continue to perform well are those enhanced with new content in 2025, including EA Sports FC 25, Abiotic Factor, and Helldivers II, highlighting the importance of frequent updates to modern players, complementing enthusiastic reviews.
